Directions: San Isabel is about 170 miles south of Denver. Take I-25 south to exit 74 at Colorado City. Go west on highway 165 about 20 miles to the San Isabel area.

Bishop’s Castle and the trailhead are another 6 miles west of San Isabel.

There is a campground, cabins for rent, a general store and restaurant at San Isabel.

6 miles north of San Isabel near Bishop’s Castle are the (very nice) Ophir Creek and Davenport campgrounds.

There is also plenty of free camping just up Ophir Creek road.

An alternate scenic route  is to take Hwy 115 (Nevada avenue) south from Colorado Springs. Go south on 115 to Penrose, cross highway 50 and continue south on 115 to Florence.

At Florence turn south on highway 67 (you’ll pass the federal prison, honk for Ted Kaczynski).

11 miles south of Florence turn right (west) on highway 96 at Wetmore.

From Wetmore it’s 10 miles west to McKenzie Junction and the highway 165 turnoff. Go left (no other choice) on 165 and it’s about 6 miles to Bishop’s Castle.
